media formats

dvcCast! can read and encode video in over 77 different formats.

You should export your finished edit from your editing application in a high quality format, such as:

  • ProRes422 (HQ)
  • Uncompressed 10-bit
  • Animation (if large areas of solid color)

If your edit is all video footage, meaning you have very few or no titles, still images, motion graphics from Motion, After Effects or Livetype, or compositing or greenscreen shots, then you can just export in the native format of your footage, such as:

  • HDV
  • DV
  • DVCPRO50

For export formats, we consider the most important to be H.264, the best looking low-bandwidth codec, and the new standard for high quality, which, in various formats, will play on:

  • any Vista, Windows XP, Macintosh or Linux desktop or laptop computer with the Flash 9+ browser plugin or Quicktime 7
  • iPods and many other portable video devices
  • cell phones
  • iPhones
  • AppleTVs connected to large screen LCD and plasma TVs, or from a DVD-R or CD-R.

dvcCast! also has 5 still image export formats and over 32 audio formats.

System Requirements

dvcCast! has run perfectly on every OS X 10.3, 10.4 or 10.5 computer we’ve tested it on, regardless of memory or processor speed.

We are working on the Windows XP/Vista version, there is no release date as of yet, but we will keep you updated on the blog as things progress.
